Welcome!

Welcome to Condo to Compound!

First and foremost, thanks for stopping by. My name is Jason, and I've started this blog to chronicle the transition from the urban/suburban life in a condo to the purchase of a home with acreage away from the city.

I'm looking for some fresh air, a peaceful place to raise a family with a good foundation of morals, hard work, and the ability to sustain ourselves. The "compound" should be a great way to do that.

The goal of this blog is to keep track of my progress and help others interested in the process. As I make this transition, I'll be learning from some people that have walked this road before like Jack Spirko over at The Survival Podcast and Tom Domres at Small Scale Life and Small Scale Gardening. They've got a wealth of knowledge, and at this point, they're quite a few steps ahead of me on this journey. I've discussed this with Tom on his Small Scale Life Podcast in a two part episode, which can be found here and here.

Hopefully, as this blog develops, I'll be able to pass along knowledge, podcasts, and maybe a deal or two for the readers that are interested in purchasing equipment I'll be using and reviewing. The two sites listed above are great libraries of knowledge. They're also incredibly motivating and have been a driving force in making this change.

As this is an introduction, I'll explain some of the stuff I'm going to start with. First and foremost, effective financial management in the actual purchase of the compound. I'll be discussing this as it progresses, from credit score, saving money, budgeting (currently following Dave Ramsey's plan, google it, it's worth a look), and finding the right realtor and financing.  I've got a great career, one I wouldn't change for the world, and I'm realizing I can utilize that to get a "slice of the pie".

At a minimum, I hope you'll learn from my progress, successes, and failures.

In addition to this, I hope you'll share your knowledge and any advice you've got. Leave a comment below on any post and let's get the conversation going!!!
